A detailed guide to funding Wio Personal with cash through Al Ansari, international SWIFT, transfers from other UAE banks or Aani. Instructions, fees and a map of offices in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah.
Funding Wio Personal
You can fund your personal Wio account with cash through Al Ansari Exchange, an international SWIFT transfer or a transfer from another UAE bank. Bank transfers require your account holder name and the relevant account IBAN, available in the Wio Personal app.
- Cash through Al Ansari Exchange — send AED cash to your bank account.
- SWIFT — an international transfer to your currency account.
- UAE transfer — by IBAN or through Aani.
Method 1. Cash through Al Ansari Exchange
At Al Ansari Exchange, pay in AED cash and request a Local Bank Account Transfer to your own account. Al Ansari’s official remittance document confirms this service for individuals and cash payments at branches and self-service kiosks. To fund Wio Personal, bring your IBAN and request a transfer to that account.
- Choose an office using the official Al Ansari branch locator. Bring your original valid Emirates ID, AED cash and Wio account details. Provide source-of-funds evidence if requested.
- Ask for a “Local bank transfer to my Wio Bank account”. Provide your exact Wio account holder name and IBAN, with Wio Bank as the beneficiary bank.
- Before paying, ask for the amount to be credited, the fee including VAT, the total cash payable and expected processing time. Check the IBAN on the transaction form.
- Pay in cash and keep the receipt and transfer reference. The official document lists delivery within one working day for a local bank-account transfer.
- Check the credit in Wio. If the stated time has passed, ask Al Ansari to trace it using the receipt reference and provide Wio support with the confirmation.
Al Ansari transfer fees
For Local Bank Account Transfers, Al Ansari’s official Key Facts Statement lists a minimum fee of AED 23.10 plus 5% VAT — approximately AED 24.26 including VAT. The final fee depends on the transfer amount; confirm it at the branch or check the app before paying.
- Check whether the fee is charged on top of the transfer or deducted from the cash paid. If you need an exact amount credited to Wio, agree that credited amount in advance.
- AED cash sent to an AED account does not require currency conversion. If paying with another currency, compare the exchange rate and resulting AED amount as well as the fee.
- Confirm the service and quote with Al Ansari on 600 54 6000, the number listed in its official document.
Al Ansari self-service kiosks: the workflow
Al Ansari also accepts AED cash through self-service kiosks. Ask Al Ansari for a convenient location and whether the kiosk offers a transfer to Wio. Prepare identification, beneficiary account details and cash.
- Confirm a working kiosk location with Al Ansari. Prepare your Emirates ID, registered mobile number, Wio IBAN and cash.
- Select the Al Ansari service and complete the identification required by the device. A new customer may need registration or help from a branch employee first.
- Choose a local bank-account transfer and your Wio beneficiary, or add the details if the machine allows it. Verify the name and IBAN.
- Review the credited amount and full fee on screen. Insert notes only after verifying the details and transaction terms.
- Keep the printed or electronic receipt. If the machine accepts cash but fails to complete the payment, record its location and machine number and contact Al Ansari immediately.
Al Ansari office map
Choose Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Sharjah to find a convenient office. Addresses and opening hours are available in the official Al Ansari branch locator. Ask Al Ansari about transfer details and kiosk availability.
Method 2. An incoming international SWIFT transfer
SWIFT is suitable when your money is already held in a bank outside the UAE. Initiate the payment with the sending bank. Select the Wio account details for the currency you want to receive: a mismatch between the payment currency and the receiving IBAN currency can result in conversion.
- Open the relevant currency account in Wio and its account details. Copy the account holder’s name, IBAN, bank name and SWIFT/BIC. Save any correspondent-bank instructions shown for that currency.
- Create an international bank transfer to the UAE with the sending bank. Enter yourself as beneficiary, using the exact name shown in Wio. Do not replace the IBAN with a card number.
- Select the currency and amount. Describe the actual purpose, for example a transfer of your own funds to your personal account. A payment, gift or salary must use its real underlying purpose.
- Review the sending bank’s fee, possible intermediary charges and the cost option: OUR means sender-paid charges, SHA means shared charges and BEN means beneficiary-paid charges. Ask what amount the bank expects to deliver.
- Recheck the details and authorise the payment with your bank. Keep the SWIFT payment confirmation and UETR, the reference banks use to trace the transfer.
SWIFT timing, deductions and tracing
The official Wio website gives an indicative international-transfer time of around three business days. Processing depends on the sending bank, intermediaries and transaction checks. SHA or BEN deductions can reduce the credited amount. Also check whether the sending bank converted the payment before sending it.
- After three business days, ask the sending bank to trace the payment and provide Wio support with the SWIFT copy, UETR, amount, currency and sending date.
- Note for transfers from Russia: the route is usable only where the sending bank can process the chosen currency and instructions and the receiving banks accept the transaction. Check availability with the bank before sending; there is no universal route for every Russian bank.
Method 3. A transfer from another UAE bank
Use a local transfer from another UAE bank to your Wio AED account. Check the fee with the sending bank. The official Wio website indicates a few minutes for local transfers below AED 25,000 and up to one business day above AED 25,000. It also notes a 9pm processing cut-off and exclusions for Sundays and UAE public holidays for the larger-transfer route.
- Copy your AED account IBAN and account holder’s name from Wio.
- In the other bank’s app, choose a UAE transfer and add the beneficiary using that IBAN. Complete any verification or activation waiting period required by the bank.
- Enter the AED amount and actual payment purpose, verify the beneficiary name, authorise the transfer and keep the reference.
- Check the credit in Wio. If it is delayed beyond the expected processing time, contact the sending bank and Wio with the transaction confirmation.
Aani and salary payments
Wio Personal supports Aani, the UAE instant-payment service that can use a registered mobile number instead of an IBAN. To receive money this way, enrol your Wio account in Aani and ensure the sending bank participates. Salary paid by your employer to your Wio bank details is another recurring funding route.
- For Aani, enrol through Wio and verify that your mobile number is linked to the intended receiving account. If it is linked to another bank, choose the correct receiving account first.
- The sender selects Aani in their bank, enters your registered number and verifies the displayed beneficiary name before approving. Follow the limits and fees shown in the app.
- For salary payments, give your employer your Wio account details. Timing depends on their payroll process and payment channel.
Paying by card through the Al Ansari app
The Al Ansari app supports local bank transfers paid with a UAE-bank-issued debit card. Al Ansari charges a transfer fee. Compare the cost with a normal IBAN transfer from your bank before paying.
- Install the official Al Ansari app and complete Emirates ID registration and identity verification.
- Choose the available UAE bank-account transfer option and add your Wio beneficiary using the account name and IBAN.
- If UAE debit-card payment is offered for that transaction, review the fee and complete your bank’s payment verification. Use only the official app.
- A credit card is not equivalent to a debit card: the issuer may treat the payment as a cash advance and charge additional fees. Consider this before using it to fund your account.
Before funding by any route
Use the account details in your own Wio app and official bank or exchange-company apps, and keep confirmations until funds arrive. You can give a sender your account details; keep your card PIN, app password and one-time codes private.
- Beneficiary name and IBAN; for SWIFT, currency and banking instructions.
- Fee including VAT, exchange rate and expected credited amount.
- Processing time, payment confirmation and source-of-funds evidence where required.
